U.S.A. 2010

An Extraordinary General Meeting is being arranged next year at the James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Virginia, of descendants of the Offley progenitors who emigrated from England in the 17th century and later.

The meeting is being sponsored by the Offley Family Society (which is based in England, www.offleysociety.co.uk ), and will cover the period from 22nd July to 24th July 2010.  Harrisonburg is in the Shenandoah Valley and is an historic Civil War site.

Whilst there are many people named Offley in the U.S.A. it is thought that those attending will be out-numbered by descendants through female lines.  There are hundreds, if not thousands, of American citizens who have Offley blood in their veins including the descendants of Adam Thoroughgood and Sarah Offley whose home in Virginia is a well known tourist attraction.  All who bear the name of Tarvin and many named Cheney, including Richard Cheney, the past Vice-President of the U.S., and his ninth cousin, Barack Obama, are Offley descendants.

Visitors from the U.K. will be met at Dulles airport and full details of the event can be obtained from Mr J.R Richards, 2 The Green, Codicote, Hitchin, SG4 8UR.  Telephone: 01438 820006.
